Annoyed with myself, missed this! Schools out for the summer now thank goodness and this time next week we'll be jetting off to Arizona. Can't wait! Hope your retreat went well ❤
Just found this wonderful video. Thanks so much. Very calming, and I think it just may have given me the confidence to experiment more.
جميل جدا 👏👏👏
Bless you Jess. ❤❤ see you in autumn xx
Love Love Love your Zen practice. I need to focus on that more. The overwhelm of the day to day can really disrupt your soul and recapturing it is vital! Your studio is magical. 🥰
❤️❤️❤️
I love your style and watercolors, so precise and relaxed at the same time!
Looks cool, but the structure of the wall helped😊
Have a wonderful and restful retreat ! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall , much love from 🇨🇦 ❤
you will be so missed Jess! enjoy your time off! hugs!

I’m glad came back to this video before taking your summer break. Your art work are Awesome. Love them. Have great summer break and I’ll see you when come back to the next video. Cheers 😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥
Never went to that nursery. Thanks for sharing.
So peaceful and full of warmth and possibility. Wishing you a wonderful summer ☀️ x
You’re very gifted..the feeling of your artwork is the kind that I aspire to create but somehow lives more in my head than on my canvasses..I feel a shift at the midway point of this year that also encompasses much of what you spoke of, tuning in more, grounding, hearing more of what my soul is craving for the remainder of this year. I’m also approaching a very important birthday (my 65th…unreal) in October so it’s time to settle, to ground..I may have to dig up my Tibetan Buddhism books to remind me of what this life is about..Happiest Birthday and thank you for sharing such beautiful artwork and videos❤
Thank you so much for being here and love that you are also feeling a shift at the midpoint of the year... so many people are echoing this. The collective permission to turn inwards seems so nourishing to me right now. Big congrats on your upcoming 65th! <3
Happy birthday beautiful soul ❤ your videos brings so much calmness and inspiration. Just loved the card and present for Kelly. Can’t wait for you to be back ~ but first a joyful summer to you 🔆
I highly agree with you!
Enjoy your Sumner!
Happy early birthday! Enjoy this peaceful time 🌿
Thank you so much Tiffany! Wishing you a peaceful summer as well. And by the way, the pastels in the previous video were chalk pastels <3
@@studioxjess okay thank you!
I will miss you 💚🫶
Having a moment to one's own pathway, is the best way to regain one's true self. Best decision ever, Jess! When it comes from the inner soul, one shall listen to it- and you are- BRAVO!. We will be here in the fall! :)
Have a lovely summer!
Best decision ever: to stop following media, watching TV - did it in May 2020. Staying with YT and with X to from time to time check on it what's REALLy is happening. Thanks for a new beautiful video. I'm not a artist-painter but thanks to you I learn how to paint a bit :) Happy Bday and enjoy being "inside" yourself to listen :)
Yes! I couldn't agree more and I so much appreciate your presence and insight here. I have been limiting my media intake for some years now (still love youtube as well) each time I go back to consuming I can feel how much energy is taken! <3
❤ have a great summer and I’ll be here when you return .. hugs
That. Orchid. 💕 Thank you for sharing the process. 🙏🏽 Isn’t a trip to the plant nursery The Best for art*inspiration ‼️🌸🪴💕
your work is so beautiful, thanks for sharing it alongside with your thoughts!
I am 64 and I tell my daughters, who are in their 30s, that there is so much to look forward to. I believe as a woman in her 40s there is so much opportunity to exercise acquired confidence, further define self and acceptance, as well as take thoughtful and strategic risks. Life is a series of zigs and zags! It’s also a time to refine what you like as well as what you don’t like. You go girl. P. S. Saw your vid with you and your Dad. Beautiful. Daughters make men - better men. And good fathers set the bar for future husbands. Love your work. ❤️
Yes Judy, this is all so true. I am feeling the call to further define self and acceptance so strongly this season... and looking forward to walking the path as it unfolds. :) Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom! <3
I love your world, you exude harmony and love for art and nature...A huge hug.
Love the lunch with dad ❤ Are those oil pastels you're using?
I am enjoying your videos very much….so fulfilling and peaceful. Thank you❤
The part with your dad is so tender.
I always love your videos ❤
Thank you so much for being here for them! <3
Definitely love your style of painting 👌👌👌
Thank you so much <3 it is ever evolving
Jess, I've been catching up on your videos which are such a balm on Sundays. I love to see your approach to art-making and am happy to hear you manage to balance out the compulsive energy we've talked about. It was lovely to see your dad's cameo in the video! Enjoy your retreat!
Thank you Luisa! <3
Jess, this was so enjoyable! The perfect way to start my Sunday.
Oh thank you so much <3
You are one of the most talented artists I have seen here on YT :)
That is such a kind compliment! Thank you so much <3
Thank you for your creative calm! Your art is beautiful!
I love the phrase "creative calm" so much... thank you!
Love your art work. It’s beautiful 😎😎🔥🔥❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
❤ just what I needed to inspire me to create something today ❤ and eat chocolate 🍫 😂 such a beautiful relationship you and your Dad ! Reminds me of my son and me and our lengthy talks about my art and my insecurities .
Always eating chocolate :) I hope you enjoyed your Sunday creations! Lovely that you have lengthy talks with your son, too. So special to have a parent and friend in one. <3

I’m new to this channel and have loved the videos. As I perused your collection, there appeared to be a distinct timeline between the type of art you are creating. It seems like the earlier pieces are of animals and flowers and your later collection is more abstract. Is there a backstory you would be willing to share? Also, wondering the same about the change in hairstyle. If too personal, please disregard and thank you for your videos.
Hello Judy, welcome and yes that's true, the direction of my path has changed a lot in these past eight years. I started my channel to share the process of becoming a children’s illustrator and learnings along the way. I started creating the abstracts at the same time in response to a request from a friend who worked in the business, but kept the channel focused on the illustration. Over time it became clear that the art was much more enlivening, natural and supportive than the illustration. So slowly, I stopped and turned fully towards what I wanted to devote my attention. As for the hair, I shaved it for a zen ceremony and never looked back. 🥰 xj
Thank you for sharing. All of your pieces are beautiful and thoughtful.
Stunning. And Pierre in his perfect spot to greet your guests 🎉
Lovely irises! Mine are about to bloom …..deep deep purple. I take them for granted as I’ve always grown them. Now I will appreciate them more as you don’t have that luxury. Funny how cats tend to like to hang out on whatever project you’re working on. My Lily likes to sit on my fabric squares for the new quilt I’m making. Love your videos and watching you create. God be with you.🦋
Hello Cathy, so true about cats :) Pierre also loves it when I redecorate a room, and claims it as his own. Enjoy your beautiful irises and thank you for being here to create with me! <3
Just found this wonderful channel - so educational for a fiber artist like me. I must start the vids from the beginning!
Thank you so much and welcome, Judy!
Lovely video! With the sage canvas I was thinking....its showing you what it is supposed to be, the shadowy green hues are so beautiful! I too am realizing I cannot force my creativity, but need to have patience and let things naturally play out. 🌿
That is what I was thinking too about the sage :) things are just so much more enjoyable with a lighter touch... restraint is definitely something I'm learning with age and time <3
Pierre just IS. 🐈🦉👩🏼🎨👁️🍄
Hi Jess. I SO love your videos. You inspired me to take a sumi-e painting class at the Denver Botanical Gardens last week. I’ve been loving it as a meditation! Thank you. . . I’m a fellow Zen practitioner of 30 years (Suzuki is also my Zen grandfather) and practice contemplative painting too. As a serendipitous moment, I read this poem by the amazing Mary Oliver for the first time this morning. So perfect to share with your video. . . Praying by Mary Oliver It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak. (Shared by a younger woman Zen teacher and poet this morning in a Buddhist Film and Arts workshop this morning in Boulder.) Lovely to feel the joy of practice as speaking from another voice together. . . So appreciate your videos. They always make me want to go paint!
Warm bows and thank you for saying hello. :) I bet we know some of the same people, the Soto Zen realm can be quite intimate! Oh my goodness... reading that poem this morning gave me shivers of life. Ah, Mary Oliver, there is a wonderful interview with her On Being (with Krista Tippett) that I return to often. And ah, you live in a place that has been sacred to me. My Nana (the original artist) lived in Colorado Springs (they were air force) for my entire life. So I would visit the Springs, Boulder, Denver, and all over the Rockies each year. Always felt the pine stitch on my rakusu was a nod to that spirit... whatever it was I felt amongst the rocks and the pines in Colorado never left me. It is lovely to have you sharing these moments, truly so meaning to me. <3
